Students Assistance Program Services Grades 7 to 12 The Student Assistance Program assists school personnel in identifying issues including alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and mental health issues which create barriers to a student’s success. The primary goal of the Student Assistance Program is to help students overcome these barriers. The state of Pennsylvania mandates that each school district have a Student Assistance Program Core Team that includes school, mental health and drug and alcohol professionals. A Lawrence County Drug and Alcohol Commission staff member serves on these teams as the drug and alcohol professional.
If it appears that a youth is using/abusing drugs or alcohol, an assessment may be requested. A drug and alcohol case manager will complete a comprehensive and confidential assessment once written parental consent is obtained. The assessment will determine the appropriate level of care which may include intervention, outpatient or residential services. Once the level of care has been determined, the Case Manager will make the necessary referral arrangements to a licensed drug and alcohol provider and assist the youth through the treatment process.
Assessment and referral services are provided at no cost to the youth or
to his/her family. The Lawrence County Drug and Alcohol Commission also has
funding available for treatment services. School staff, family members, community members and other students can refer to the Student Assistance Program when there is a concern about a student’s behavior. To access services, please contact school personnel. |
