Prevention/Educational Services

The Lawrence County Drug and Alcohol Commission provides school- and community-based Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) prevention and education services.  In our commitment to provide quality programming, we focus on utilizing evidence-based curriculums such as Too Good for Drugs II and Project Alert for school-based prevention services.  Evidence-based programs are those that have been proven to produce positive outcomes.  In addition, we offer a variety of services dealing with character building issues, such as self-esteem, bullying, conflict resolution, and peer pressure.  We encourage and promote safe, responsible decision-making skills, as well as drug and alcohol awareness.

Additionally, we are committed to providing our community with the most current information on ATOD, drug trends, treatment and other related issues.  Our goal is to reduce the amount of drug and alcohol use in our community through education and risk reduction activities.

Prevention/educational services include:

·                     Classroom education (Grades K-12)

·                     On Applebee Pond puppet shows (Grades K-3)

·                     Educational programs for school personnel, businesses, community agencies, youth groups, parent groups, faith-based groups, etc.

·                     Training/mentoring youth advocacy groups (i.e. Peer Leadership)

·                     Events coinciding with national and statewide campaigns (i.e. Red Ribbon, Great American Smoke-Out, Prom Promise)

·                     Free literature on alcohol, tobacco, drugs and other health-related issues as an approved Department of Health Regional Alcohol and Drug Awareness Resource Associate Center (RADAR)
